PhD student Craig Harper’s presentation at the BPS Annual Conference 2014 (held at the ICC, Birmingham), “Representations of Sexual Crime in the British National Press” was picked up by The Psychologist magazine in its reporting of the conference. Craig’s talk looked at press representations of crime rates and the linguistic processes used by the national press when discussing sexual crimes in comparison to other socially marginalised groups, addressing the central question whether reporting sexual crimes sell newspapers.
