Dr Fenja Ziegler gave an invited lecture to contribute to an open lecture series hosted at the University of Nottingham. The “Lectures on Identity”- series of interdisciplinary lectures is designed to stimulate thinking and discussions about identity by by drawing on expertise from different specialised fields to explore the fundamental topic of identity.
The talk was exploring the capacity for mental time travel as a way of decision-making and how our representation of our past, present and future selves leads us to make decisions which are biased towards getting rewards now and putting pain off until later. This draws on experimental and theoretical work carried out in Fenja’s “Imagination lab“.
